What is JOYnet?

JOYnet is the virtual face of Jesus Youth family. It is a global network of the joyful followers of Jesus Christ.  Perhaps a one-of-its-kind network in cyberspace where youth find joy in sharing their God experience, spiritual insights and reflections to like-minded friends across the world.  
Edifying personal sharing, moving testimonies and informative discussions on different biblical topics are highlights of the network.

What is a JOYnet Account?

JOYnet is the online community for Jesus Youth and it offers a variety of membership based online services.  JOYnet Account provides a consolidated interface to manage your preferences for these services.  Currently offered services include management of various mailing lists subscriptions and Jesus Youth GPNS (Global Positioning and Networking System).

Who can have a JOYnet Account?

All followers of Jesus Christ who share the spirit of Jesus Youth are welcome to join the JOYnet community.  The following two statements describe Jesus Youth in a nutshell.

Does JOYnet Account cost anything?

No.  JOYnet Account is completely free of charge.  You can register yourself and activate a JOYnet Account in a few minutes of time.

How do I get JOYnet Account?

You can register for a JOYnet Account by clicking here. The registration involves a couple of steps which you can complete in a few minutes.  Please start with filling in your email address, userid and password.  An activation email will immediately be sent to the email address you provided on the registration page..  The confirmation email will have a link to activate your account.  Please open your email account's inbox and click on the activation link.  This confirms your email address and activates your registration.  Now you can proceed to Login.

What are the steps I need to complete after registration?

JOYnet Account registration is the first step to get a JOYnet Account.  It confirms your email account and establishes an account for you in JOYnet database.  Once registered, you can add/edit your profile here.  It is required to fill in your profile before you can start using the JOYnet account features.

Why should I give my email id for my registration?

Your email address is required during registration for three reasons.

1. The link for activating your account will be sent to you email address.
2. If you forget your Joynet password, it can be retrieved by using the Forgot Password link from Login page.  If you use this feature, the new password is sent to your email address.
3. All the mails from the mailing group you subscribed will be sent to your email id. You can change this after logging in to the Joynet home page.

How can I activate my account?

When you register for a JOYnet Account, we will send you an activation mail to the email address you specified.  In order to activate your account, you must click on the link in your activation email.  If you could not click on the link, then just copy and paste it into the browser address bar. If you could not find the activation mail in your inbox, don’t forget to check in the junk mail box also.

How can I change the password of my account?

You can change your password by going to the Joynet homepage and clicking the Change Password link on the left sidebar. In the "Change Password" page you can give your current password and new password. You may also confirm your new password by retyping it again.

What are the mailing lists in JOYnet?

Jesus Youth has a few mailing lists under JOYnet.  The primary and the most popular one is joynet itself (joynet@jesusyouth.org) where people share their personal experiences, Christ encounters and other general matters related to Jesus Youth.  Current subscription strength of JOYnet is 1700+. Other mailing lists in JOYnet group are:

• prayernet - For sending your personal and general prayer requests.  A group of prayer warriors are always watching this list and they will pray for your intentions and reply directly to you, if required.
• parablenet - This list is for sharing Christian articles, parables, stories and other non-personal writeups.  The purpose of parablenet list is to provide a forum for people who would like to receive non-personal spiritual material.  Generally non-personal material is not allowed in joynet list, so you are encouraged to send such material to parablenet.
• jobseekers - A list for members who are looking for jobs in various fields.  JOYnet members who come across genuine job opportunities aer requested to post the information to this list.

How do I subscribe to mailing lists?

To subscribe to joynet, parablenet, prayernet and jobseekers mailing lists you need a JOYnet account. JOYet allows only members to  post and read mails on the mailing lists.  If you have a JOYnet Account, please login first and then click on the 'Subscriptions' link on the left sidebar. From the Subscriptions page, choose the lists by clicking the "Subscribe" button. By clicking the "Unsubscribe" button you can unsubscribe from a mailing group you already subscribed.

Do I have to login to my JOYnet Account to read/post the mails from mailing groups I subscribed?

No. All the mails from your subscribed mailing lists will be automatically sent to the email address you provided at the time of registration. You can also send your posts to the mailing lists as email from your mail account.

Will my mailbox be flooded with mails from different mailing groups if I register with JOYnet?

No. You will get mails from only those mailing lists that you subscribe to.  Immediately after registration, you are not subscribed to any list.  You will be able to choose your preferred lists from the 'Subscriptions' page.

Is my email address visible on the web when I post to a mailing group?

No.  Currently theJOYnet archive is not exposed on web.  When the archive is available, it will be restricted to members.

What is my username?

You need a unique user name to create your Joynet account.

What is my password?

If you forgot your JOYnet Account password, please visit the Login page and click on the link 'Forgot your password?'
You will then be prompted to enter your username and we will send you an email describing how to reset your password.  This email is sent to your email address in JOYnet Account.  You will have to confirm the 'Password Reset' request by clicking on the appropriate link in the mail.  Your password will then be reset to an auto-generated text and you will also get an email confirmation with the new password.

Will I get Joynet mails in my account after I register?

No. You should subscribe to the mailing groups to get mails.  After logging into the account, please click on the 'Subscriptions' link on left sidebar.

How do I subscribe to Joynet mailing lists?

You can subscribe to Joynet mails by going to the Joynet homepage and clicking the „subscriptions" link in the left side of the page. From the Subscriptions page, just choose, to subscribe to Joynet, by clicking the "Subscribe" button.

I subscribed to lists, how do I post now?

You can post to a mailing list by sending mails to the address <listname>@jesusyouth.org from your email account.  Please use the email account registered with JOYnet Account to send mails to JOYnet.  Here are the email addresses for various lists.

    parablenet - parablenet@jesusyouth.org
    prayernet - prayernet@jesusyouth.org
    jobseekers - jobseekers@jesusyouth.org

How do I unsubscribe from a mailing list?

You can unsubscribe from Joynet mailing group from the Subscriptions page in your JOYnet Account.  You can also unsubscribe from a list by sending an unsubscribe email to the address <listname>-unsubscribe@jesusyouth.org.  For example, to unsubscribe from parablenet, you can send a mail to parablenet-unsubscribe@jesusyouth.org from your registered email account..  Here are the unsubscribe email addresses for various JOYnet mailing lists:

I can’t see my mail which I posted to the group, why?

Mails to joynet and parablenet mailing lists are moderated now.   The JOYnet moderation team is a group of committed and knowledgeable people from around the globe.  Though moderation team includes people from all timezones, there is a delay before your mails will appear on the list.   If  for any reason, your mail is rejected from the list, you will get an acknowledgement mail with the reasons for rejection.

Are the mailing groups moderated?

Yes. All the mails to joynet and parablenet mailing lists are moderated in order to ensure that the content is according to JOYnet guidelines.  In case your mail cannot be posted to the list it was originally sent to, moderators will acknowledge the fact with a return mail.  The response from moderators will also include a reason for sending back your email.

Is it possible to change my mail id which I receive the mails from the mailing groups I subscribed?

Yes. You can change the mail id which you subscribed to mailing groups by going to Joynet home page and clicking the "Change Email Address" link.  In the "Change Email Address" page you can give your new email id.   Your new email address needs to be verified before you can start using it. An email will be sent to the new email address. Click on the link in the email to verify your email address. If you could not click on the link, then please copy and paste it into the browser address bar.

What is a JOYnet Profile?

Joynet profile is your identity in the Joynet. You should fill up at least the required fields before starting to use JOYnet services. You can update your profile by going to the Joynet home page and clicking the "Profile" link on the left sidebar of the page. If you try to subscribe to mailing list before updating your profile details you will be automatically taken to profile update page.

How do I edit my Joynet Profile?

You can edit your Joynet profile by going to the Joynet home page and clicking the "Profile" link in the left side of the page.
In the top right corner of the "View Profile" page you can see a "Edit Profile" button. Just click on that to edit and change your profile.

Is my profile visible to others?

No. At present your profile will be visible only to administrators of Joynet.

Can I choose not to have a profile?

No. You are required to provide the necessary profile data before subscribing to the mailing groups of Joynet.

Does Joynet prevent spam mails and viruses to my mail box?

Yes. No spam/virus mails will reach your mail box from JOYnet mailing groups.

Can members subscribed to joynet post to other JOYnet mailing lists?

Yes. Members of joynet mailing list can post to other mailing lists also (parablenet, prayernet, jobseekers etc).  But only those users subscribed to the lists will receive these messages.
