Sunil Nadarajan and Dr. Sindhu Subhadra have come a long way in their walk of faith. Both of them hail from Hindu families. Sunil is a computer engineer based in Chicago, where they live with their three children, Rose, John Paul and Jessy. Sindhu, a stalwart of the JY Pro-life movement, got involved in Jesus Youth while in Medical School. The two of them are very active in the Jesus Youth of America. Some excerpts from an interview.

Who is the founder of Jesus Youth and where did it begin?

Unlike religious congregations and some other movements, Jesus Youth is not the product of a single person’s vision. The Charismatic Renewal swept through the churches of the picturesque state of Kerala, in the southern tip of India in the late 70's, touching the hearts of young people, leading to the formation of youth groups. In the early 80's, the groups grew rapidly, and in 1985, the International Year for Youth, these groups came together with a name: Jesus Youth.

How do I join Jesus Youth?

There is no formal membership or enrolment required to become a part of the Jesus Youth movement.

1. However, you have to become a regular participant of a Jesus Youth prayer group in your area and be committed to this fellowship of active Catholics. As you advance, become a part of a Cell group and a JY ministry, which will help you grow in JY Spirituality as well as form you in a lifestyle of Christian outreach.

2. Participate in a Jesus Youth programme and follow it up through a Jesus Youth fellowship.

JY Prayer

In the Jesus Youth movement there are prayer meetings which follow the Charismatic style of fully spontaneous leadership and participation, but in a small group gathering, in the meeting of a Jesus Youth Team or other fellowship gatherings, the Jesus Youth Prayer will be quite appropriate. For a person new to fellowship prayer, the present mode will be helpful for easy participation. On the other hand, for those experienced in participative prayer, the Jesus Youth Prayer will open up new depths of inner life and spiritual discipline.

Global Presence

Jesus Youth is active in nearly 25 countries and has a national network and a definite infrastructure in countries like USA, Canada, Italy, Ireland, UK, Germany, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. There are regional teams and groups in countries like Austria, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Cambodia.

In India, Jesus Youth has an active presence in more than 140 areas covering every state of India except Himachal Pradesh.

Heart Talk

I have always dreamt of a Mission City where all the residents share and grow in the love of Christ. So the month of August in Bangkok was like a dream come true for me, with the three international trainings happening in one place – the “Garden of Gospel Peace”. Seeing the animators, leaders and young missionaries, I realized how the Holy Spirit is powerfully networking us to spread His love to every corner of the world. This system of people is a great blessing of the Holy Spirit to our movement which is growing like a healthy body with effective parts. I would like to share my

Prayer Zone

One of the backbone ministries which supports and strengthens all other Jesus Youth initiatives, ministries and endeavours is the Intercession Ministry.
In many places around the world, intercessory groups gather regularly to pray for the Church, the JY ministries and other prayer requests. Night vigils are also a regular feature. In some areas, centres for Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has also been initiated by the Jesus Youth.
