First ever Jesus Youth International Assembly was held from 3rd to 6th Dec. 2009 at Alpha Pastoral Centre, Edakochi, South India. Nearly 300 delegates from 18 countries participated. George Devassy, Jesus Youth International Coordinator said that the Assembly was a time to reflect on what Jesus Youth is being called to.

The main content of the Assembly were paper presentations made by around 28 active members of the movement including some animators. The papers were grouped under 6 modules- Context, Movement, Spirituality, Formation, Lifestyle, and Mission. A highlight of the Assembly was ‘Soul Café’, an evening of music and worship led by the Rexband where the audience were seated at round tables and served food from thattukada (traditional countryside food stalls), creating a unique ambience for fellowship and evangelisation.

With constant updates about the Assembly being communicated via the ‘JY Times’ newsletter, ‘Youth Vibes’ podcast, YouTube uploads, twitter and facebook posts, Jesus Youth all over the world could join in and participate in this event which was clearly history in the making.
