A JY ANIMATOR SHOULD BE SOMEONE WHO:
 
  • Attracts and challenges the youth by being a joyful contradiction
  • Helps the youth to take a fresh look at the present-day world and culture in the proper light.
  • Communicates using relevant dynamics, taking into consideration the pace, complexity and culture in which they live.
  • Exerts greater influence by being a role model rather than giving advice.
  • Facilitates new friendships in the group that lead towards a new life style and culture.
  • Helps the youth to have a sense of belonging in the movement.
  • Builds up the individual in the values of the Gospel and in the person of Jesus.
  • Encourages youth to reach out to people in love with a desire to introduce Jesus to others.
  • Helps the person to acquire confidence by being aware of his uniqueness.
  • Encourages individual and group initiatives (ministries) in all its different forms.
  • Plans follow ups (Action-Reflection-Action.)
  • Guides the youth towards a new spirituality.
  • Ushers them into the Richness of the Catholic Church.

TIPS TO RELATE TO YOUTH CHARACTERISTICS

HOW TO RELATE

Physical Characteristics.  
They grow up rapidly. Girls are 12 to 18 months ahead of boys. Be patient with their clumsiness. Activities, not to be too competitive or over-strenuous.
They have alternating periods of energy and fatigue. Don't mistake fatigue for laziness, they may be doing their best.
Mental Characteristics  

They like adventure and discovery and have active imagination

Appeal to these traits. Help them to use these to make their faith come alive. Guide them in thinking through problems for themselves.

Capable of serious thinking develops ability to think abstractly & concretely. But knowledge is grows faster than experience. Direct them to Scriptures to find answers to tough questions.
They enjoy humour. Learn to laugh with them. Usehumour
Social Characteristics  

Want to be grown ups and independent of adults but still acts childish.

Don't call them "children" Give them responsibilities, but don't be disappointed if they act irresponsibly.

Want to belong to some gang and have a strong sense of loyalty. Respect their peer loyalty. Expect cliques. Encourage friendship. Direct their loyalty to the Lord. Avoid teasing or using sarcastic remarks. These can have adverse impact. Show each one that you care for them.
Extremely self-conscious hero-worshipper Be worthy of their respect, but don't set yourself on a pedestal. You might fall off
Emotional Characteristics  
Emotions are intense and fluctuates frequently. Make special efforts to under stand them. Avoid causing emotional disturbances.
Have little control over imotions since these are closely tied to changes in their body. Don't schedule a noisy game before a serious prayer time; they wont settle down quickly.
feels that no one understands them Take time to talk to each one personally. Show them that you appreciate their uniqueness.

Spiritual Characteristics

 

Want practical religion

Show that the life in the Church and the truths of Bible are relevant to their situation.
Have religious doubts Doubts are part of the growth process. Welcome them as a sign of personalization of their faith. They are not blindly gulping something that is handed on. Give honest answers.
They seek ideals. Direct this desire towards Christ and the ideals that he sets for us in the Scripture.
