For the first time in the history of Jesus Youth, 23 Jesus Youth leaders, including priests and animators, met in Rome from September 11th - 18th, 2003 to give shape to Jesus Youth International.  These delegates represented the following seven countries:  Canada, Germany, India, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The official meeting of JYIT started after a three day pilgrimage in Rome. The venue for the meeting was a parish centre. All through it there was the typical congenial Jesus Youth atmosphere- food was prepared in local Jesus Youth homes and brought to the venue daily. At night, the participants huddled together on the bare floor of the conference room. Altogether, it was a time of knowing each other deeply.  And each day the JYIT meeting began and ended with the Divine Office – a decision that arose from the desire to embrace the deeper spirituality inherent in the traditional prayers of the Church.
