Their Mission Lives On | In Sacred Memory of Five
February 2025
In Loving Remembrance of Our Jesus Youth Members – Pookkipparambu Bus Tragedy. As we mark the Jubilee Memorial of the Pookkipparambu bus tragedy, the Jesus Youth movement solemnly remembers one of Kerala’s most heartbreaking road accidents. On March 11, 2001, the tragic collision and fire claimed 44 precious lives, including five vibrant and faith-filled Jesus Youth members who had dedicated themselves to evangelization and renewal services.
Among the departed were Roy, Rajani, Shiji, Bindu, and Reena, beloved members of our Jesus Youth family. They had just returned from parish renewal services in Rajapuram, Idukki, when the public transport bus, traveling from Guruvayur to Thalassery, lost control, collided with a car, overturned, and caught fire. The sudden and devastating loss of these young missionaries was not only a sorrowful moment for their families but also for the entire Jesus Youth movement.
Their sacrifice and dedication continue to inspire us. As a heartfelt tribute to their memory, the Jesus Youth community in Kozhikode has undertaken a mission of love—building and handing over homes to five underprivileged families. This initiative is not just an act of charity but a profound testament to the selfless spirit they embodied in life. By transforming our grief into service, we strive to keep their legacy alive, ensuring that their passion for Christ and humanity continues to touch lives.
On this solemn occasion, we pray for the souls of our dear brothers and sisters who departed too soon. Their light may have been extinguished on that fateful night, but the fire of their mission burns on in the hearts of those they touched.
