Jesus Youth Expands Mission to Sierra Leone, West Africa
February 2025
Marking a new chapter in its global outreach, the Jesus Youth movement has taken a momentous step forward by expanding its mission into Sierra Leone. In just three days, movement representatives met with all four Bishops of the country, receiving a warm welcome and official invitations to begin their mission.
This expansion was made possible through the invaluable support of Fr. Patrikson and Fr. Rayappa of the SMA Fathers. Fr. Patrikson, a former Jesus Youth Animator in Chennai, played a pivotal role in bridging the movement with the local Church. With the blessing of the Archbishop and accommodations arranged by the SMA Fathers, preparations are now in motion to establish and grow the mission in Sierra Leone.
A major breakthrough came with the commitment of a missionary family—Jaison, Jincy, and their three children, Jessica, Jianna, and Josiya—who have answered God’s call to serve in Freetown. Their willingness to step forward in faith marks a new chapter for Jesus Youth’s outreach in the region.
Last Sunday, during Mass at Good Shepherd Church, Kwama, Fr. Rayappa introduced the Jesus Youth team to the parish community. The team had the privilege to share the movement’s vision, receiving an enthusiastic response from the faithful. Despite economic hardships, the local community displayed remarkable generosity and hospitality, further strengthening the mission’s resolve.
With the foundation now set, the greatest need remains for more missionaries to step forward. As the Jesus Youth movement embarks on this new journey, prayers and support are requested for the success of the mission and for those called to serve.
