On August 2, 2025, Adolf Goldwyn was ordained to the permanent diaconate by His Excellency Bishop Stephen Lowe, Bishop of the Diocese of Auckland, at the Cathedral of St. Patrick & St. Joseph in Auckland, New Zealand. It is with great joy that we share this news!
Adolf, who has been a key leader of the movement, first discerned his call to the permanent diaconate in 2020. How beautiful it is to witness individuals journeying with the movement continuing to respond to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit in service to the Church. Over the years, many from the movement have embraced vocations to the priesthood, religious life, consecrated life, single life—and now we rejoice to add the permanent diaconate to that list. Truly, this is a blessing for which we give thanks to God, for Adolf’s witness and his generous “yes.”
Since the Second Vatican Council, the permanent diaconate has been affirmed as “a proper and permanent rank of the hierarchy” (Lumen Gentium, 29). As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, it “is an important enrichment for the Church’s mission” (CCC 1571). Deacons are ordained ministers called to the service of the Church, and in laying down his life for this ministry, Adolf embraces this call to lifelong service.
Adolf has been married to Lucy for over 30 years, and together they reside in Auckland. Their daughter, Karen, also lives in New Zealand. Professionally, Adolf is a Chemical Engineer and MBA graduate, currently serving as Director and Country Manager of a biomedical firm. Both Adolf and Lucy have been active members of Jesus Youth since 2000, with Adolf serving in various leadership roles including National Coordinator Animator for Jesus Youth India, First National Formation Coordinator of India, National Formation Coordinator for New Zealand, member of JYIC, and currently as a member of JYIFT.
We thank God for the gift of Adolf’s vocation and invite you to keep him and his family in your prayers as he begins this new mission of service in the Church.
“For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
